The Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials(RSB) Certification demonstrates the sustainability of the production and processing bio-based fuels as per the RSB standard criteria. The RSB standard recognises biomass and biofuel producers and processors who adhere to stringent social responsibility and environmental stewardship criteria, reaching well above minimum levels of compliance established in the 2009 EU Directive.

European Union Renewable Energy Directive(RED)
According to the European Union Renewable Energy Directive 2009/28/EC, biomass produced sustainably for use in the EU countries for production of liquid and transport biofuels may only qualify for tax deductions, receive feed-in tariffs, or be counted towards renewable energy targets.
The EU RED aims to ensure that biomass is not produced by the destruction of primary forest, mangroves, biodiversity hotspots or wetlands. Futhermore, the EU RED mandates that the net greenhouse gas emissions associated with the use of certified biofuels shall be at least 35 percent lower than GHG emissions related to the use of fossil fuels.
